Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

You get the point.

Näin asiaa on käsitelty paikallisessa lehdistössä. Engelskaksi.

Violence flares again in remote town

THE situation in Wadeye has reportedly become more violent, with hundreds of people said to be roaming the town carrying axes, iron bars and other weapons.

A woman was also struck with a knife in the Wadeye store and several axes were thrown in the store, sources have said.
Wadeye (formerly known as Port Keats) is 230km southwest of Darwin and has a population around 1700.
People in town who do not want to be named said the situation had escalated dramatically since last week and yesterday there were hundreds of people on the street with weapons.
Police had stationed two extra officers there but locals stay it is nowhere near enough now.
The store opened in the morning and closed again due to violence but at the elders request it open again.
It closed again after the attack. It is understood the store will not be open again until there are police guarding it.
It is understood some families are trying to stop other families using the store and it has resulted in bloodshed. Some members of one family left the town after a man was killed in mid September.
"It is now being used as an excuse to do anything," a resident said.
"It has extended past a fight between two families and the whole community is involved now.
"Even before the bloke died there was violence at night."
Police are investigating the claims of violence.

POLICE have tripled their presence in a small Territory town after what a former resident described as the community's worst day in at least 20 years.

Violence and riots broke out at Wadeye, 244km southwest, following the death of a young gang member.
NT Police Superintendent Daniel Bacon said 20 officers were now stationed in the town - up from the regular six - in a bid to control the violence.
A former long term resident who did not want to be named said a long-running family feud between the Dumoo and Jongman had escalated since the death of the Juda Priest leader last September.
"This is probably the worst it has ever been," she said.
"You put Iran, Iraq, the US, whatever in the size of Tasmania and tell them to get along," she said.
"You put all these tribes together and they don't really like each other and it is been going on for decades.
"Because the families are getting bigger and bigger and because they are marrying into other families the problem is getting bigger."
The victim's burial is on November 23.
A Dumoo family member was charged with his murder.
There are up to 20 clans and several language groups from different homelands at Wadeye.

Police arrest 12 more over Wadeye riots

POLICE have arrested 12 more people in Wadeye following the recent riots.

The latest news comes on the back of Wednesday's announcement that 15 people were arrested following riots early this week.
A total of 27 people have now been arrested.
About 200 people, some carrying axes and iron bars, clashed violently on Monday in what one former resident described as the community's worst day in at least 20 years.
Police have tripled their presence in the small Territory town to 20 officers.
Superintendent Daniel Bacon said nine of the latest arrests were for outstanding warrants while three were linked to the recent violence.
"Police have moved swiftly following the disturbance and the community can now feel safe once again," he said.
One person was charged with taking part in a riot, riotous behaviour in a public place and being armed with an offensive weapon. They were remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Court on Friday.
A man and a woman were charged with aggravated assault, being armed with an offensive weapon and engaging in violent conduct.
They and the nine people on outstanding warrants have been bailed to appear in Wadeye Court on November 20.
Investigations into the riots are continuing.

Wadeye worst in fifty years

LONG-TERM residents of a Territory community plagued by civil unrest have said the latest riots sparked by the death of a gang leader were the "worst in 50 years'', a court heard.

Darwin Magistrates Court was told that violence was "guaranteed' in Wadeye up to and after the Judas Priest gang leader's funeral on November 23.
Police prosecutor Justene Dwyer told magistrate Sally Sievers there was a four-hour riot between the Judas Priest gang and rivals Evil Warriors and Slayer on October 22.
Evil Warrior member Theodore Dulla, 18, pleaded guilty to his involvement yesterday.
Sergeant Dwyer said he was armed with two pieces of metal reinforcement bar during the "large violent disturbance'' - that was reported to involve up to 200 people - outside the community store from midday...

Wadeyen jengeistä on oikein tehty dokkarikin.
